  • Patio for a Mikveh

    Location:
    Offenbach, Germany
    Type:
    Landscaping, renovation
    Year of Completion:
    2026
This project transformed a neglected rear entrance area into a tranquil patio serving a new Mikveh. The primary objective was to convert an unplanned, emergent outdoor space into a welcoming environment that reflects the spiritual essence of the site. Key challenges included renovating the existing facade, managing roof water runoff, and coordinating all works within a concise timeline.
The design strategy focused on essential interventions to maximize impact. A new layer was applied to the existing facade, framing the entrance door to reveal the entry point clearly. The patio floor was finished with simple tiling, while ambient lighting was installed to create a calm atmosphere after dark. Special attention was given to the element of water, central to the ritual function of the Mikveh. An open channel was introduced to guide rainwater from the roof to the existing drain, turning a technical requirement into a visible feature of the landscape.
Execution relied on close collaboration with local craftsmen, including tilers, painters, electricians, and plumbers. Solutions were often refined on site to address existing conditions efficiently. This hands-on approach allowed the team to relieve the space of its previous disjointed character and deliver a cohesive, serene patio that serves as a dignified threshold for visitors.
